IES & Colchester take Suffolk Indoor Cup titles

On a warm night at Rushmere Sports Club last Monday, the men’s and ladies’ Suffolk Indoor Cup titles were settled with wins for IES A and Colchester respectively.
IES A beat Ipswich on the night, who the week before had secured the Borrett Cup title and the league title previously. With a strong squad, IES in the first half dominated an Ipswich side which started with five players before being reinforced to a squad of 7 at half time. Goals from Lane, Brown (2), Oakley (2) and Pettit secured the cup for IES A, although Ipswich did score four in reply once back to full strength with two strikes each from Reed and Driver.
However, IES A held on thanks to stout defending from captain Charlie Coulson, Carl Short and Luke Curtis, as well as influential keeper Marc Lloyd. IES A’s win makes up for their position of third in the Suffolk League, where they finished behind Ipswich and runners up Ipswich School.
IES A – Lloyd, Brown, Coulson, Short, Pettit, Oakley, Curtis, Lane
Ipswich – Glading, Reed, Driver, Patel, Wrinch, Bullock, Brocklehurst
In the second game, Colchester’s ladies, who have just secured promotion outdoors back into the East Premier league, beat Ipswich ladies 4-1. Goals from Anne-Marie Bradley, Lorraine Arthur and Angela Roberts secured the cup for the Essex side, which also plays in the Suffolk Indoor league. Ipswich replied with Jo Gray goal, but it was too late to stop the Essex side from making it a miserable night for the Henley Road side.
Colchester – Crombie, Rose, Scott, Roberts, Bradley, Allen, Arthur
Ipswich – Sandall, Wrinch, Hanman, Parry, Kezziah Green, Flo, Scott, Allen, Bedingfield, Gray
The Suffolk Indoor Cup night attracted many spectators to Rushmere Sports Club, where afterwards organiser Marc Lloyd thanked the teams and importantly the umpires for their contribution to all indoor competitions over the 2010/11 winter season. The structure of Suffolk Indoor hockey is likely to change next season with a new two-tier system if there are suitable clubs willing to participate, and more details will be released shortly.
