Ipswich Ladies currently hold a comfortable position in the Ladies National East Conference, Annika Broster has already contributed 4 goals out of Ipswich’s total of 7 so far. Last weekend Ipswich defeated St Albans 3-0, Broster scoring the first two, and Fay Curran finishing off the scoring with an open play goal after 54 minutes.
Saturday the 16th Ipswich host Dereham Ladies at Tuddenham Road, 1.15pm start, where hopefully the Suffolk side can pick up 3 points, and put some pressure on league leaders Chelmsford.
Men’s Premier A is shaping up to be the most competitive in years, with numerous sides recruiting heavily. Ipswich have been quite unfortunate in having to play the 3 main recruiters in their first 3 games, defeats at home against City of Peterborough (4-6) and Cambridge City (1-4) who have ex-National League stars such as Gareth Andrews (COPHC) & Nicky Thomson (CCHC) mean that they are in the bottom half of the table, however a win away at Bedford, which is a difficult place to go at any time in the season, should give Ipswich confidence to pick up some win’s in coming matches. Next Saturday they host Havering, followed by a trip to Cambridge University.
Ipswich’s 2nd XI have picked up the same amount of points as their first team, and face the first Division 1 local derby of the season away against Felixstowe. Felixstowe having achieved back to back titles look like the team to watch this season, and they have made a cracking start to the season, gaining 6 points from 3 games, but for a narrow defeat to Dereham’s 2nd XI it could have been a 100% start to the season.
Bury St Edmunds are still yet to get off the mark, and will be looking to get their points tally started at home to Cambridge City 2’s.
In Division 2N Ipswich-East Suffolk host Bourne this Saturday, hoping to maintain their 100% home record, as the only Suffolk side in this division a strong season at Copleston High School is a must as every away game will involve a minimum of a 50 minute drive, fingers crossed for them.
Our other first XI’s in the county have started strong, Sudbury and Ipswich Cranes both have the maximum 9 points in Division 3NE, and Lowestoft Railway also have a 100% record in Division 4NE.
Are trophies heading to Suffolk Sides this season? Well it’s very early in the season, but hopefully the county will see some silverware headed this way.
The Ladies East League is already 4 matches in, Ipswich’s 2nd team are sat in mid-table of the Premier League, but the bottom 3 is occupied by our other Suffolk Clubs. Bury St Edmunds with 3 points host Sevenoaks 2nd team, and Lowestoft (1pt) take on Sudbury (0pts).
In Division 1N, Ipswich 3’s have picked up 4 points and travel this weekend to Lincoln. Ipswich-East Suffolk are yet to get off the mark but are not bottom of the table thanks to goal difference. Despite 3 very tight home games IES have now got to pick up some points away from home, and travel to Wisbech Town this Saturday who are top of the table.
Division 2NE contains 3 Suffolk first teams, Cartlon Park find themselves 6th after winning 3 out of 4 games, they have a home Suffolk derby against Haverhill who currently are yet to gain a point. Christchurch have picked up 3 points, and travel to Norwich face the Dragons 2nd team.
Good luck to all the East sides this weekend!
Sudbury 2’s currently occupy top spot in the Suffolk Premier League with 3 wins out of 3, but it still looks like it’s anybodys title with Ipswich 4’s, Castaways and Felixstowe still in touch. Castaways and Felixstowe have both had good starts, and face each other at Orwell School this weekend. Grasshoppers, who have won 2 from 3 play Sudbury 2’s at home, a win for Grasshoppers would really open up the top of the table.
In Division 1 the league has been reduced to 8 teams, Christchurch 2’s and Carlton Park 2’s remain undefeated.
Feel free to send in your match reports, and any club news you want adding to the site, the website is still very much a baby at the moment, and we want to develop it as much as possible.
Good Luck for the next few weeks, hopefully see some of you at the Indoor!
